The Project foreman said the heavy equipment on the southern tip of Figure Eight Island was shifting sand from the future inlet corridor into a stockpile area, bounded by 7-foot-tall, sand-filled tubes, on the current inlet’s northern shoreline. The huge sandbox, which will eventually contain 260,000 cubic yards of sand, will be used to fill in the current inlet once the new inlet is opened.
